The most common direction for the three peaks starts in Horton, leading walkers up the steep climb of Pen-Y-Ghent to its summit at (694m). Next stop Whernside accessible by following the route which provides spectacular views of Ribblehead Viaduct and through Ribblehead village. From this you follow the Settle-Carlisle railway and take the long climb up to the summit of Whernside (736m).Ingelborugh is the final stop of the three peaks, requiring navigational skills to guide you to the summit of Ingelborugh (723m).

The full challenge is approximately 23 miles long and requires full commitment from Walkers. There are several events a year organised for walkers to undertake the three peaks challenge, this allows for a structured approach to the challenge for walkers to enjoy the day as much as possible.
