Welcome to The Woolshed

Our newly opened Woolshed is a traditionally-finished, purpose-built space designed to house some of the finest handcrafted wool produce available, covering everything from complete fleeces to the most intricate of knitwear, and wools and yarns from some of this country's finest producers.

About the wool

It's all about the wool, and at The Woolshed you can learn how this 100% sustainable, environmentally-friendly material is produced. From the sheep that grow the fleeces, to the processes of wool making, and the skills & crafts that bring out the very best of what wool has to offer.

Traditional Handmade Crafts

At The Woolshed we also stock exclusive, traditionally made products from local craftspeople, ranging from jewellery, ceramics and woodturning, to soaps, paintings and gift items.

Craft Demonstrations & Exhibitions

In the near future we'll be posting details of all the craft demonstrations and exhibitions we're planning for 2020, so check back here for details of how you can take part.

The Woolshed Project

The Woolshed has been a long-time vision of Margaret Taylor - owner, alongside husband Jim Taylor, of Dent Village Heritage Centre and High Laning Caravan & Camping Site. Margaret is passionate about both the heritage of wool and it's place in the modern world, and The Woolshed faithfully joins together both past and present, and looks forward to the future of this incredible resource and the traditional local farming methods that have been at its heart for over a thousand years.

The project was only made possible due to funding available from the European Union's European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. As a diversification of a working farm business the project has 5 main aims:

The European Agricultural Fund
for Rural Development:
Europe investing in rural areas
